LanguageCert Speaking practice test
In short
The LanguageCert Speaking test is a live, one-to-one interview with an examiner. The best practice is the same thing: a spoken interview, out loud, with follow-up questions. Proloquent's examiner runs every part of the test for Academic, General and SELT, then marks you on the official criteria a minute after you finish.
How the practice works
- The examiner speaks to you and listens to your answers, part by part, like the real test.
- It asks follow-up questions based on what you actually said, so you can't rely on memorised answers.
- Every part of the test is covered: the interview, role plays, the reading or picture task, and the long talk.
- About a minute after you finish, you get a level, a score on each official criterion, and what to fix next.
What you're marked on
Academic and General Speaking are marked on five criteria: Task Fulfilment & Communicative Effect, Coherence, Grammar, Vocabulary, and Pronunciation, Intonation & Fluency. SELT Speaking & Listening swaps Coherence for Listening & Responding and reports Pass or Not yet at your level. Your practice report uses the same criteria, so you know exactly which one is holding you back.
Why practise speaking out loud
Most candidates lose marks in Speaking through hesitation and short answers, not grammar. Reading model answers doesn't fix that; speaking under a little pressure does. A practice interview is the closest you can get to test day without booking one.
A sample Speaking report
What you see after a practice interview (Academic, example candidate).
Sample report for an example candidate. Yours is written about what you actually said or wrote.
A solid B2: task fulfilment & communicative effect is a strength; focus next on accuracy and range of grammar.
A solid B2 performance: you communicate clearly and complete every task. To move towards C1, link ideas more precisely, add a few complex structures, and keep talking through short pauses instead of stopping.
What’s working
You answered every question fully and your role play reached a clear outcome. In Part 4 your presentation covered both points on the card, though the conclusion was rushed.
Your longer answers were easy to follow, but you leaned on 'and' and 'also' to link ideas. Try 'on the other hand', 'as a result' or 'that's partly why'.
A good range for the topics, including 'commute', 'work-life balance' and 'cut down on'. Some repetition of 'very important' and 'nice'.
Clear and easy to understand. You paused often mid-sentence to search for words, and your intonation stayed flat when giving opinions.
What to work on
Good control of past and present tenses, but recurring errors with conditionals ('if I would have more time') and few complex structures. This is what's holding your level back.
Next steps
- Practise conditional sentences aloud: 'If I had more time, I would...'.
- Learn five linking phrases for contrast and result, and use two in every long answer.
- In Part 4, save 20 seconds of your talk for a clear conclusion.

FAQ
Is there a free LanguageCert Speaking practice test?
Yes. You can try a short interview on the demo page without an account, and a free account includes one full live interview with a scored report.
Does the AI examiner sound like the real test?
It follows the real structure: it asks the questions out loud, waits for your answer, and asks follow-ups. It's practice, not the official test, and its scores are indicative estimates.
Which LanguageCert exams can I practise?
LanguageCert Academic, LanguageCert General, and the ESOL SELT Speaking & Listening test at A1, A2 and B1.
How long does a practice interview take?
About as long as the real Speaking test: roughly 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the exam and level.
Do I need special equipment?
A browser and a microphone. Headphones and a quiet room give the most accurate marking.
