Is LanguageCert accepted in the UK?

In short

Yes. LanguageCert is a Home Office approved SELT provider, so its tests count for UK visas, settlement and citizenship when you sit them as a SELT at an approved centre. Which test and level you need depends on your visa: speaking and listening at A1 to B1 for family and settlement, Academic SELT for study, General SELT for work.

What it’s accepted for

Family visas, settlement and citizenship

The speaking and listening test (International ESOL SELT): A1 for a first partner visa, A2 to extend, B1 for indefinite leave to remain and citizenship.

The A1, A2 and B1 tests

Student visas

Academic SELT: B1 for courses below degree level, B2 for degree level and above. For a degree, your university can assess your English itself instead.

How LanguageCert Academic works

Work visas

General SELT. Skilled Worker needs B2 in all four skills, raised from B1 on 8 January 2026.

When a LanguageCert result won’t count for a visa

  • You didn’t sit it as a SELT at a Home Office approved centre.
  • It’s more than two years old, unless it was already accepted in an earlier application.
  • It’s at a lower level than your route asks for. A higher level covers a lower requirement, never the other way round.

UK universities

Admission is a separate question from the visa. Each university sets its own English requirement, and for a degree-level student visa it can assess your English itself instead of asking for a SELT. Check your course page for whether LanguageCert Academic is accepted and at what score; our score chart shows how scores map to CEFR levels.
