Is LanguageCert accepted in Australia?
In short
Yes. Since 7 August 2025, LanguageCert Academic is an approved English test for Australian visas, as long as you take it at a secure test centre; the online version isn’t accepted. Home Affairs sets a minimum score for each skill, and speaking needs the highest: 70 for Competent English, 82 for Proficient.
The scores Home Affairs asks for
Minimum LanguageCert Academic scores for each English level, with the IELTS result Home Affairs sets for the same level. Your visa decides which level you need.
| English level | Listening | Reading | Writing | Speaking | IELTS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Functional | 38 overall | 4.5 average | |||
| Vocational | 41 | 44 | 45 | 54 | 5 |
| Competent | 57 | 60 | 64 | 70 | 6 |
| Proficient | 67 | 71 | 78 | 82 | 7 |

What counts
- LanguageCert Academic, taken on or after 7 August 2025.
- At a secure test centre.
- For every visa type that asks for English: the visa decides the level, not the test.
What doesn’t count
LanguageCert Academic Online, or any test taken at home. And a LanguageCert result from before 7 August 2025: the test wasn’t on the approved list until then.
Studying in Australia
The student visa has its own English requirement, and each university sets its own entry scores on top. Check both the visa page and your course page before you book.
